Exploration of Technology

Welcome

This is a beginning course in Exploration of Technology and Entrepreneurship. We will be utilizing App Inventor, Lego Mindstorm kits, Vex Robots, Adobe (PhotoShop) software, various Lego Robotics materials and construction building tools. The objective of this course is to introduce the student to basic programming as well as problem-solving strategies. This course will involve students in the development, building and programming of a Mobile Apps and STEM. Students will work hands-on in teams to design, build, program and document their progress. Topics may include motor control, gear ratios, torque, friction, sensors, timing, program loops, logic gates, decision-making, timing sequences, propulsion systems and binary number systems. Student-designed robots will be programmed to compete in various courses as developed by First Lego League, Youth Fair, VEX Robotic and Seaperch Underwater.

When students begin each survey, they will be asked to select their class.  Each of your courses is identified by a code that includes your last name, first initial, a course number, and “16” (e.g. RungeJ-1-16).  If you have multiple classes, please be sure to tell each class which number they should select when taking the surveys (1 for your first class, 2 for your second, etc.).

You can use App Inventor without downloading anything to your computer! You’ll develop apps on our website: ai2.appinventor.mit.edu. To do live testing on your Android device just install the MIT App Inventor Companion app on your Android phone or tablet.  Once the Companion is installed, you can open projects in App Inventor on the web, open the companion on your device, and you can test your apps as you build them:
